Prudential Bank Limited has presented 6 Slit-lamp Biomicroscopy instruments valued at GH ¢ 210, 000 to the Department of Optometry at a short ceremony on campus.

The Slit-lamp Biomicroscopy which is used to examine the anterior and posterior part of the eyes would facilitate teaching, learning, research and extension services of the Department.

The Department of Optometry in collaboration with Vision Aid Overseas(VAO) has organised an eye screening exercise for four communities in the Central Region.

Residents of Abakrampa, Komenda, Jukwa and Esuekyir benefitted from the screening exercises. The team screened more than 2, 000 residents from these communities for various eye diseases. Some were presented with spectacles whilst those with serious eye defects such as cataract and glaucoma were referred to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital for further examinations and treatment.

A lecturer at the Department of Optometry of the College of Health and Allied Sciences, Dr. Stephen Ocansey, has been awarded fellowship in the American Academy of Optometry (AAO).   Dr. Ocansey who received  the award at the Annual meeting of American Academy held from October 11-14, 2017 in Chicago, Illinois is the second Ghanaian to be awarded a Fellow of AAO.  

The Director of Reckon Medical Ghana Limited, Dr. Kwame Oben-Nyarko, has donated eye equipment worth thousands of Ghana Cedis to the Department of Optometry. Items donated include Trial lens set, Ophthalmoscope, Near Chart, LED illuminated Distance Chart and Examination Loupe. Presenting the items, Dr. Oben-Nyarko, said the essence of the donation was to assist the Department to join the fight against global blindness. He urged them to take good care of the equipment.
